My Introduction

Hi, thanks for stopping by my blog. My name is Michelle, and I'm a 27-year old college grad from the US. I've had a lot of neat experiences in my life, like joining the Peace Corps, being evacuated from Africa, moving to Japan.... But those are stories for another blog. THIS blog is about my future.

You see, I face the same problems that nearly everyone in my generation faces - mounds and mounds of debt, a murky global economy, and limited income. I'm teaching English at a private company in Japan now, and while I make a good deal more than I could hope for at a minimum-wage job back home, my salary is still entry-level. After rent, car insurance, and insanely high Japanese taxes, I earn around $1,500 USD a month. Although I live with my boyfriend, we have decided to manage our incomes - and our debts - separately.

I've got a lot of dreams. World travel, buying a home, starting my own internet business.... Not all of the things I want in life can come true. But until I take initiative and change my current situation, they all remain out of my reach.

Thus, from today (a little late for a New Year's resolution, but oh well) I'm making a promise: To become debt-free before my 30th birthday!!

This blog is going to be the record of my journey, as well as my source of accountability. If all goes well, I hope to be able to encourage others like me to succeed, too (after all, blogs like this have been my biggest inspiration so far!)

So please sit back, relax, and watch the debt...disappear :)
